i like to give you the biggest bang
in positive impact
cut to the chase
in all this new way
of positive parenting

so you can enjoy your kids
today!
and feel confident you are raising
little (or big) ones secure
in who they are +
ready to live their gifts
to make our world a better place

so here goes...
spend quality connection time
or gem
{genuine. encounter. moments.}
with your kids

g.e.m.s or quality connection time
is one of your key tickets
to transforming misbehavior

this goes for all kids
and especially kids who are struggling
with their behavior

if your child is misbehaving
they are in what
becky bailey of
conscious discipline
calls a negative feedback loop

kids are wired for connection
+ attention from us
if they aren't getting it in
positive ways,
they'll be sure to get our attention
in negative ways

= misbehavior

here's some guidelines

that you can adapt
for babies to the teen years....

1) pick a child-led activity that:
* is nurturing
* you also enjoy doing
(legos are a no-no for me
as they drive me bonkers),
* has a low frustration + competition level
* is right-brained, if possible:
dancing, art, making music, sand play,
rough housing (if it's fun), chasing each other
or going for a walk outside,
playing with stuffies,
or rocking in a rocking chair or porch swing
are some possibilities.

do what your family loves to do,
and if you're not sure
what that is
- pose the question
"what do we love to do together?"
so you can look for the answers this week

2) time recommendations:
* 10 minutes/ day
for children 5 years + younger
* 30 minutes/weekly
for children 6 years to teens
according to positive discipline

3) don't discipline:
commit to focusing
on how....
positive
amazing
beautiful
wondrous
your child is

yes

but....
if your kids use this time

to test you
(they might)
stay strong in the positive

if you need to
you can...
* whisper in their ear
"quiet" or "be gentle"
* give them a hug
* or turn their misbehavior
into a joke

your #1 goal is
for your child to get your
POSITIVE attention

    Mama Megan

    Hi friends,  I write from the heart to tell my life story, and the story of those in my neighborhood called life. Research shows that our children's emotional & mental health is contingent upon us parents being able to tell our life story, or "coherent narrative."  This is my coherent narrative, my life story in the making, with some of what I love in life too. My goal is to share my life in a way that is real, uplifting & positive- sometimes serious, sometimes fun. In my practice, I inspire parents to empowerment through reclaiming our life stories and learning respectful discipline. My work is my offering to our children- our future. Wishing you all a happy family!
