Holiday Magic ~ not madness!

so i guess what
i'm getting at is...
the holiday season
is here
- and it's busy!

which is why my
holiday magic intention
in addition to
magical giving
is also to
slow it down
way down

the holidays
go by
at warp speed
+
can get mighty stressful

so
rather than
working or socializing
i spent 4 hours
in bed
yesterday evening
when my son
was at his dad's

i spend long moments
staring at our white
christmas tree

and as the pace picks up
my to do list is under-way
stress levels rise

i commit to
slowing down
sinking deep
giving thanks
so i can keep
the spirit
of the holidays alive
in my heart + my home

as the holidays
kick off
how can you
* slow it down?
* nurture you?
* give thanks?
for the gift
of life this season

your heart + your mind
to what you value most this season
so you can bring
peace on earth
goodwill to all
into your home

p.s. Part of slowing down and enjoying this holiday season is sinking deep into SLEEP! Remember lack of sleep, sugar and over-stimulation are root causes of misbehavior in our children. Check out the video below full of sleep and positive parenting tips from Brittney Stefanic Sleep Consultant and me for a smooth sailing holiday season. Enjoy and wishing you lots of zzzz's in this season of hibernation.

do toys ruin children?

so here
we are in
pre holiday bliss

i always get
a little barometer
preview
of where
my son is at
in terms of
giving + receiving
materialism
+
commercialism
after his birthday

we had such
a beautiful
10th birthday
celebration

(thank you
for all the
sweet wishes)

then it didn't end
the festivities lasted
a whole week...
we had family
in town
(which was grand)
we celebrated
his real birthday
a couple days later
then our annual
wonderfully fun
school fundraiser
was the same week

somewhere
in the middle
i no longer
had a child
i had a puddle
of tears

of over-stimulation
of too much sugar
+ not enough sleep
of missing family
we love who live
farther away
than we'd like
and
of too.many.toys.

so it's not fair
for me to blame
too much birthday
just on
too many toys

in fact
he was blessed
with wonderful
+ educational
toys
but still they
were objects
bought in stores
nonetheless

and it got me
thinking lots
about the holidays
of all my values
for giving
for homemade
for winter nature

and phew
i'm so thankful
i'm hosting
the 3rd annual
holiday magic
~ not madness
next week

i hope you'll
join us too
for simple
FUN + MAGIC
for less stress
and wayyyy
less consumerism

tools for when your kids

the season of celebrating life

once upon
a time

i pushed
a little big soul
out of my body

my life
forever changed
in birthing
my baby
i birthed myself

and here
we are today
i've got a
sweet + strong
tween
on my hands
whose spirit
is thankfully
much the same
as the day
i birthed him
in my bathroom
nearly a decade ago

and thus begins
our holiday season
actually it starts
with halloween
and ends
with new years

one big joyous holiday
after another
like today
celebrating
phoenix's 10th bday
with family + friends
{picture above}

it's an expensive
juggling game
of all our fav things
that i simultaneously
absolutely
love + adore
while also
every year leaves
my questioning
how is it all
going to happen

how am i going
to love the moments
creating simple
FUN + MAGIC
this season
without
all the madness

how to instill
the values of:

* giving is receiving
* homemade gifts
* quiet introspection
* time in winter nature
* genuine holiness
* the spirit of peace
on earth + goodwill to all

amidst the crazy consumer
madness + pressure of the
holiday season

hope you'll
join us for
the free
holiday magic
~ not madness
online event

celebrating what's
most important
this season

and today
give your kids
an extra big hug
because
they do grow
so fast

let's do this
holiday magic
keeping it
simple
beautiful
full of everything
that is good
this time of year
and saying
by-bye to the rest

not madness

    Mama Megan

Hi friends,  I write from the heart to tell my life story, and the story of those in my neighborhood called life. Research shows that our children's emotional & mental health is contingent upon us parents being able to tell our life story, or "coherent narrative."  This is my coherent narrative, my life story in the making, with some of what I love in life too. My goal is to share my life in a way that is real, uplifting & positive- sometimes serious, sometimes fun. In my practice, I inspire parents to empowerment through reclaiming our life stories and learning respectful discipline. My work is my offering to our children- our future. Wishing you all a happy family!
