one day
i'm hanging
laundry outside
soaking up the sunshine
the kids are outside
all day
and the next day
it's halloween
the holidays
seem to start
november 1st
these days
life gets busier
by the minute

Picture

this is the season
to do lists grow
the season
that creates more demands
unless
we consciously
slow down
focusing only
on what
we love most
letting the rest go
so we can enjoy

which is why
i created
the fall magic
crafting guide
for you
to slow down
+
enjoy the season
with your children
click here to download your free fall magic craft guide

it's also
the season
to make
our lives easier
with clear expectations
both
with ourselves
+
our children

like getting clear
on your family's
halloween candy
expectations

my son + i
used
curiosity questions
to make our
halloween candy plan

i asked him:

* "what's our plan for
halloween candy this year?'

and

* "how many pieces
do you want to eat
before you trade them out?"

and phew
finding our agreement
was much easier
than i thought
{he's going to eat
the number of pieces
of his age = 9
which i'm ok with}

making our plan
in advance save
frustrations
upsets +
misbehavior
on both our parts
on halloween night
here's some info
on curiosity questions

Picture

fall + winter
are also
the seasons
i love to write

the happy home
method ebook
is well underway
+
i can't wait
to share more
with you soon!

what about you?

what do you love
about this season?

and how can you
slow down and enjoy it?

Happy Halloween Week
and here's to lots of
slowing down + enjoying!

do parenting books make you feel like a bad parent?

10/22/2018

Picture

i routinely have
a stack of
parenting books
on my night stand

like if
i sleep
next to them
i'll learn
their insights
by osmosis

i do read
some of them
before
i'm paying
overdue fines
at the library

honestly
i usually don't
agree 100%
with what
parenting books
today are teaching

but the real reason
i'm hesitant
to pick them up

Picture

and
that's the truth
i start reading
a parenting book
and suddenly
i'm falling down
the "bad parent"
hole of guilt

i realize
everything
i'm not doing
as a parent
everything
i'm doing wrong

"omg i'm messing
my son up.
i'm so not present now..."
and the negative
inner dialogue
kicks in
until
i check it
breathe in

Picture

for years now
i've been thinking
about writing
a book
for parents
that makes
you feel like
the amazing parent
you already are

so you unlock
your inner wisdom
+
build your strong
foundation
from within

from that place
of you living
in connection
to your highest place
you can access
all the positive
parenting tools
+
feel like
the amazing parent
you already are

it's finally happening!
i will be sharing more soon!

on escaping + presence

Picture

in terms
of our lives
+
inner worlds
it's easy to feel
separate
or disconnected
from ourselves

in more severe terms
we can disconnect
so much
that is becomes
a way of being
a state of mind
where
there's no connection
between our
thoughts
memories
sense of self

for most
of us
this isn't
the case
it's not
that extreme

we just dabble
in escaping

we disassociate
as a coping mechanism
almost turned
into a hobby

life
gets difficult enough
and poof!
we're gone
like
harry potter's
floo power

we apparate
to a safer place
in our minds
so we can
take a break
or hide
until it's safe
to come out again
+
live our lives

we want to escape
forgetting
in that moment
how amazing
we are
+ life is
because
stress takes over

we forget
we have the skills
to get through
we forget
everything.is.ok.
the tides
will turn
we are ok

because
we want
to be here
in this
thing called
life

but we just
need
a little break

so we
sleep too much
drink too much
eat too much
get lost in a screen
we just need
a little break

we feel anxious
depressed
sometimes both

because
life is so much
to handle
sometimes
it's too much

i get it
i feel it too

and i know
these little moments
when i don't think
i can handle it
when i doubt
because
it all seems
too much

these moments
add up
over time
weakening
the core of
who we are

the doubt
creating a
false reality
we ironically
enter into
to escape

because
believing
trusting
having faith
in
ourselves
isn't something
we were
taught enough
about
as kids
to prepare
us
for how hard
life truly is

irony
is
we're not
prepared
to handle
how
beautiful
life
is
either

let's
change
that

because
it's not
just about
coping
getting by
surviving

it's about thriving
of being truly
thankful
for the gift of life
of believing
trusting
having faith
in who
we are

of knowing
100%
we got this
because
we don't have
to do it alone
we can do
this thing
called
life
together.

Picture

presence
simply
means
we fully exist
we fully occupy
our lives

that's what
i want for
all of us
to live fully
to be fully present
it's the greatest gift
we can ever give
our children
because
in fully living
+
embracing ourselves
they learn
to do
the same

no doubt
taking over
our children's lives
no total overwhelm
no need to check out
to escape
to get a break
in order
for them
to keep living

presence
is
the best gift
we can
ever give
ourselves
one another
our children

presence
is
the gift
that
keeps giving
into
the future generations

presence
is the gift
i'm giving you
with
my upcoming
eBook

The Happy Home Method
pre-launch party
begins soon
yay!

until then
sending you
all the support
in
the world
to
believe in
trust in
have faith
that it's
all doable
to truly see
your thriving self
in everyday life

Together
We Got
Presence

life this week

it's the time
of year
i want to sip
bone broth miso
curled up
in wool
or faux fur
then go to
hot yoga or pilates
head home
play chess
with phoenix
and write
the day away

it's the time
of year
we tend
our own hearths
sleep more
drink
warming beverages
get our
happy homes
going smooth
for all the indoor time

all this
fall time
transition
while
the world
continues
to decay
before
our eyes

humanity
we been on
a downhill slope
since colonialism
hopefully
things
will pick up
after
the trump
ignorant world order
for now...
Picture

it was a
seemingly
odd time
to offer
my happy home week

but
the timing
ended up
being perfect
because

Picture

so to give back
to moms for
all you do everyday
all you been through

since
sadly
so many
if not
most of us
are
sexual assault
and/or
child abuse survivors

last week was
the perfect time
to give back
to moms
with
positive parenting
+
mindfulness

here's a little
snapshot summary
of our
happy home week
affirmations

Picture

the happy home week
gave me
the gift
of taking
the negative
+ turning it
into something
positive

this coming week
i ask all of us
to ask ourselves
what are we learning
and
how we can
1) give back to ourselves
and
2) shape the negative it into
something positive
for the next generation

i hope these
happy home affirmations
remind you of
what's most important
how wise + powerful
you are
how taking care of yourself
loving you
is the best thing
you can do for
your happy home
+
our world

big hugs
together
we got this

Picture

p.s. There's more to say, always. :) Stay tuned for my upcoming blog post all about Consent - I'm really excited to share it all with you.

p.p.s Also, you all have been asking me for years to write a simple ebook about positive parenting - and it's almost here! every season of your happy home

Picture

every season
of parenting
has its joys
- and its challenges
that's for sure

sad truth is
whether
we're enjoying
+
loving our lives
as parents
or
full of overwhelm + stress
well
our children
grow up either way

we have 2 choices
we can suffer alone
in silence with
our parenting struggles
we can lock ourselves
in cycles of
parenting guilt + shame
that perpetuate
negative behavior
in our children

or we can
come together
in community
to let go
of old cycles
from the way
we were raised
+
500 years of
fear-based parenting

we can embrace
our challenges
as the #1 way
to learn + grow
together

we can awaken
in our hearts + mind
a new way of being human
of raising our children
rooted in
love
mutual respect
trust
solutions
problem-solving

let's choose
growing together
we begin tomorrow with
our happy home week
hope you can join us!

Picture

together
let's grow
the garden
of you
the garden
of your family
let it be the season
your happy home

hope to see you
for the happy home week
kicking off tomorrow!

i'll be sharing
parents' favorite
positive parenting
+ mindfulness tools
to support you
in reclaiming
your birthright
to a happy home.

    Mama Megan

Hi friends,  I write from the heart to tell my life story, and the story of those in my neighborhood called life. Research shows that our children's emotional & mental health is contingent upon us parents being able to tell our life story, or "coherent narrative."  This is my coherent narrative, my life story in the making, with some of what I love in life too. My goal is to share my life in a way that is real, uplifting & positive- sometimes serious, sometimes fun. In my practice, I inspire parents to empowerment through reclaiming our life stories and learning respectful discipline. My work is my offering to our children- our future. Wishing you all a happy family!
