back to life. back to reality. back to school.

this is the time
of year when
this song is playing
in my mind
on repeat

when life
feels bittersweet
because
i love summer
but it sure is hard
to be a work from home mom

i love these words
from anna kunneke

"I have been thinking a lot about how we turn from season to season in our lives-- how we become the next version of ourselves. Partly it's this time of year, this strange in-between limbo where it's still hot as blazes and everyone is in flip flops posting beach pictures, but some places kids are already back at school, and there are pumpkins in the store and pumpkin spice in the lattes but also we're all reluctant to let go of summer until after Labor Day, and these last summer days feel extra precious and surreal as they dwindle"

sigh,
it's back to school time

here's the tips
i've followed
to make our
back to school
as smooth sailing
as possible

tip #1: delete apps
from your phone

this past week
i deleted
facebook
&
instagram
from my phone

this may be
seemingly unrelated
to back to school

but i promise you
the more present
you are
the least amount
of time
you're on a device
is a 10 fold increase
in cooperation
from your children

the first day
i always miss
those apps
like i'm missing
a dear friend

day 2
and onward
i want to get
rid of my phone
as well :)

tip #2: PLAY

as we say
in positive discipline
connection = cooperation
PLAY is the #1 way
to connect with your kiddos

get down on
the ground
the floor
or head outside
and follow
your kids
around in play

anything you have
to do to prep them
for back to school
will flow 100% easier
after you've connected
with your children
in their world
even for 10 minutes
PLAY is everything

Picture

tip #3: family meetings
prep your kids
for success
in their
back to school
with
a family meeting
positive discipline style

get your kids
on board
with the
back to school
schedule
+
flow
in a democratic way
which will
make your
1st week
of schoool
ssssooo much easier

i don't have time!

the ironic contradiction
that says
we can have it ALL
which means
we have to do it ALL
which leaves us feeling
exhausted
depleted
like we want to do
NOTHING

100% unrealistic
expectations
for modern parenting
especial modern mothering

are you a "yes" person?
do you find it hard
to say "no"?
because you sincerly
want to be helpful
or you feel like you
should be helpful

or maybe you've learned
how to hold strong boundaries
for yourself + your time
because it's your life
after all

* whether you feel run down
by the pressure to do it all
* you're working to create a life
in which you are in the driver's seat
rather than your obligations
running you
* your clear boundaries are
an inspiration to others

this thought is for you:

Picture

i read this quote
this week on ig

and wow
it rocked my world

instead of
running around
feeling like
i have no time
but that i should
have time
i should be able
to do it all

i realized
life is about
choices
we have
X amount of time
to allocate
to our top priorities
the rest
just can't
be a priority

we say no
to
say yes to what
truly matters

so as you
head into your week
let go of
that pressure
false expectation
that you have
to do it all
that there's
any way
you could do it all
even if you wanted to

instead of saying
i don't have time
say
it's not a priority
and see how it feels

i found it felt
superbly
liberating
+
empowering
and i hope
you do too

Say yes to what
truly matters
by saying no
to the rest
creating a life
of priorities
what's closest
to your heart
- n
ot stress.

you + your children are good people

so often
i get teary
writing these
sunday messages
to you

recording videos
for my online programs
or
during a coaching session

because
the work
we do
together
in parenting
is some
of the most
powerful work
on the planet

you my dear friends
hold the future
of humanity
in your hands

as much as we
laugh together
sometimes
we cry together too

the gift
of supporting you
of empowering
your family
i take
very seriously
it's quite an honor
+
the way i serve humanity

so yes
i get teary often
like while making
the week 1 kick off
video for
just listen to me
on inherent goodness

because
you + your children
are good people

you're here
for a reason

your purpose
is so strong

sharing
your gifts

to make
our world
a better place

what's wrong
with the world?

that you would
ever ever doubt
in your inherent goodness
even for a second

Picture

this is the simplest
parenting truth
i know

when you feel like
a good parent
you are a good parent

it's that easy
+ that challenging

because modern parenting
is SO stressful
because we're taught
to see our mistakes
as character faults

you're not a bad parent
when you struggle
you're just human

so today focus
on all your goodness
all your strengths
that well of wisdom
within you

this is #1 way
to grow
your inherent goodness

to feel like
that good parent
you truly are

your struggles
are mere circumstance
life lessons + growth
in the making

but you
+
your goodness
it's everything
it's ultimate truth
all you'll ever need in life
the foundation
for everything
positive + true

so let's unlock
that goodness
within you
today

You + your children are good people.
Believe in that.
It's the foundation for everything.
It's your truth.
Go within and grab it,
so you can live it.

You Got This.

    Mama Megan

Hi friends,  I write from the heart to tell my life story, and the story of those in my neighborhood called life. Research shows that our children's emotional & mental health is contingent upon us parents being able to tell our life story, or "coherent narrative."  This is my coherent narrative, my life story in the making, with some of what I love in life too. My goal is to share my life in a way that is real, uplifting & positive- sometimes serious, sometimes fun. In my practice, I inspire parents to empowerment through reclaiming our life stories and learning respectful discipline. My work is my offering to our children- our future. Wishing you all a happy family!
