minimums

when Dawn
first told me about
minimums
i cringed
Picture
how i take care of me -----------> my happiness?
owning my life like that
scary thought

my eyes wet
i told Dawn
it’s hard for me to write down my minimums
my basic needs
or even think of them
because

How in the world would I ever make all that needs to happen for me, happen in a day?

what i was really saying was:
i don’t know how to take care of me
questioning deep within
whether i was worthy of happiness

so that’s where I was at
for a couple months
those @$%#* minimums
they haunted me
not with a feeling of doom
but of what was changing within
and my resistance to change

amazingly
wonderful
thing
is
positive change
happens
inner change
changing our lives
takes time

i know now
what i need to tick….

                                                              as the highest version
                                                                      of me

possible
in this moment
….and I know it’s possible to make that happen
to give myself what I need to be happy

not sayin’ I won’t have bad days
or forget
or feel like i don't have time
but my baseline
foundation
way of being
from the inside out
is one of personal happiness

i did it!
i found my minimums
and i’m making them happen
to make happiness happen

and you can make happiness happen for you too!

I look forward to sharing my minimums- and Dawn's minimums- with you tomorrow during this week in Self-Worth. Heart-felt thanks to Dawn for being my wise guide on the journey to my happy life. self-worth

if life came down to one thing....
what would that one thing be for you?
this week
for me
hands down
self-worth
for certain
if you don't think highly of yourself
what do you really have?
not much

the way you think about yourself

your respect for you
your kindness for you
your love for you
it's everything
everything

not sure how much self-worth you have?
do you at least give yourself
same amount
of respect
you'd give to a dear friend?

hope your answer is yes
for me
it's yes
mostly
but i've had to work at
for years

this week
i share with you
what i'm learning
about
self-worth
and how to build it
from within
to treat yourself
like a  best friend
like your whole world
depends
upon it
because it does

join me this week
i'll be featuring
the best & brightest
from my community
to talk about all things self-worth
from my world to your's

Happy Tuesday!

lessons from a paper bag

8/10/2015

The other day as I was designing my on-line class for parents....

i was searching the house
for a big piece of paper

to sketch out my ideas
how about cutting open a brown paper bag?

i head to the kitchen cupboard
the first thought that crossed my mind:

Are you sure it's ok to use that paper bag for this project?

i catch myself
really?

is the week's recycling
somehow more important than my life's work?
deep within
doubting

Whether I'm worthy of a brown paper bag
when confronted
with feelings of unworthiness
thought patterns
subconscious operating systems
uncomfortable
embarrassing
to admit

these feelings of unworthiness
so at the root of our struggles
it would be foolish to ignore them
but we often do
to avoid the pain

in my community of families
parents wisely recognize
Stress as the #1 obstacle to positive parenting

The first step to transforming your stress levels from within?

knowing you are worthy
you are worthy of less stress
of having your needs met
feeling good in your body
happy in your mind
peaceful in your heart
fulfilled in your life
so you are your calm & confident highest self

You are worthy.

That's what the brown paper bag taught me.

your inner safety net

8/2/2015

Imagine you are asked to walk on a tightrope 100 feet in the air.

The tightrope is over a beautiful meadow, but if you fell it would certainly hurt.

There is no net beneath you, and you have never walked on a tightrope before.

How willing are you to give it a try?

Say you have the same tightrope and meadow in front of you.

But below you is safety net.

If you fall, the net will catch you.

Do you feel differently about going across?

It might still be scary to think about going across the tight rope walk.

But you know deep in your heart, the net is there to catch you.

Life is full of challenges, without a doubt.

The hope is that with every challenge you meet

You have a built-in safety net.

What is the safety net in your inner world?

The net within to face the daily challenges of living....

Believing in yourself

Your ability to succeed in life

To feel happy & content within

Love & acceptance

This is your life safety net

Picturephoto by only1anuchka

So whatever tight rope you are walking across

In the landscape of life

Cliffs, oceans, deserts alike

You feel safe and supportive

Your inner safety net firmly in place

Where does this inner safety net of life come from?

From your parents

In how they raised you

They believed in

So you learned to believe in yourself

To trust in who you are

Because they trusted in who you are

Our inner voice is our safety net

The safety net gifted to us by our parents

In how they raised us

This is the essence of positive parenting

Raising and disciplining our children in a way

That teaches them they can trust in themselves

In a way that helps them grow

A safety net of security from within

In themselves

In their relationships with other people

In humanity and life

Especially during the inevitable challenges & pain

They’ll face in their lifetime

An inner safety net of trust, security, love, confidence & strength

This inner safety net is the gift of positive parenting

What if your parents didn’t give you this gift of your inner safety net?

You’re not alone

My gift for you

Is your golden safety net

That you get to grow as an adult

The gift of parenthood

To grow trust, security, strength and love

For yourself and your family

From within

So you can gift this gift to your children

This is positive parenting.

Welcome to the movement, dear friends.

Wishing you all the gift of your inner safety net.

Have a wonderful week!

    Mama Megan

Hi friends,  I write from the heart to tell my life story, and the story of those in my neighborhood called life. Research shows that our children's emotional & mental health is contingent upon us parents being able to tell our life story, or "coherent narrative."  This is my coherent narrative, my life story in the making, with some of what I love in life too. My goal is to share my life in a way that is real, uplifting & positive- sometimes serious, sometimes fun. In my practice, I inspire parents to empowerment through reclaiming our life stories and learning respectful discipline. My work is my offering to our children- our future. Wishing you all a happy family!
